Want to save your matteress get one. You can even put it under the sheet itself. Stays in place better that way.

I originally got this to use as a changing pad while traveling to visit the grandparents. My daughter is getting a bit squirmy so I wanted something nice and large to use. Plus its very portable! Now that she has started solids and her poops are ALOT more intense and bigger I have been changing her poops on the bathroom floor. I just throw this down over the bath mat and We've got a nice clean cozy spot for a change. It is easy to care for too - I just throw it in with the diapers when if gets dirty.
