This is a decent general teething ring. My 12 month old son is teething his middle teeth and this teether is ok. It will suffice for a few minutes. It freezes well and doesn't get too cold for his little hands. It may work better for front teeth teething, but we got it after he'd already gotten his front teeth, 4 on top, 2 on bottom. The smell is a mild vanilla, not overpowering like I'd fear
