When you first start cloth diapering, figuring out the
differences between doublers, inserts, and liners can be a little
confusing. Basically, inserts are
absorbent and designed to fit into the pocket of pocket diapers. Doublers are designed to add absorbency to
any diaper system. They can be laid in the diaper or added to
a pocket.
Liners are probably the most confusing since there are some products
that are called liners that are absorbent and some that are not. Some are absorbent like doublers and others
have a small amount of absorbency.
Fleece liners are not absorbent at all and are designed to help your
baby feel dry.
Thanks Mama offers a wide variety of pocket diaper inserts
made from fabrics like cotton, hemp, and microfiber.
During the day you will need 1-2 inserts per diaper depending on
your child. If you have a heavy wetter you may need 2 inserts in each
diaper during the day. At night you will need 2-4 inserts in the diaper
depending on your baby's needs. We also
highly recommend Hemparoo Fleece prefolds as inserts for heavy wetters.
Just use one Hemparoo Fleece prefold during the day and two at night for your
heavy wetter. The popular Babykicks Hemparoo Joey Bunz
Diaper Inserts are made from hemp while the KaWaii Baby Microfiber Diaper
Insert Pack will give you a 10 pack of absorbent microfiber inserts.
Doublers can solve leak issues if your
child is wetting more than the cloth diaper can hold. Doublers are typically laid in the diaper up
against baby’s skin. Some products offer
stay dry material on top of the doubler to help the baby feel dry and add
absorbency at the same time. The
BumGenius Stay Dry Doublers and the Sugar Peas Fleece Topped Organic Hemp
Doublers will add absorbency and help keep your baby dry.
Liners like the Kushies Washable Liners
will add some absorbency to your cloth diaper, but not as much as
doublers. Some products are called
liners and have doubler absorbency like the Bummis Terry Liners and the Mother
Ease Snap-In Absorbent Liners. If you
are looking for liners to help keep your baby dry then you may want to consider products like the Bummis Fleece
Liners or the Hemp Babies Raw Silk Liners.
Whether you need an insert for a pocket
diaper, a doubler to increase absorbency, or a liner to help your baby to feel
dry take a look around Thanks Mama to help you discover which products would
suit your needs the best.
